The harsh noonday sun beats down on us as we climb the trail to Garfield Peak on the south shore of Oregon's Crater Lake.
We are tired and thirsty, and everything around us looks barren and uninviting.
Lucky for me, I have an old white bed sheet handy. Together with my tripod, it makes a cool, inviting tent by which the sun is kept at bay.
I don't know if the tiny Pholx flowers appreciate the momentary shade, but for a moment at least, they look soft and cool from the camera's perspective.
